This is a 1971 White Label Promo press of a great Sonny Terry / Brownie McGhee album. The 1965 originals with a different cover can sound quite good as well, but in my experience they are usually noisy; this one sounds great and plays quietly. The sound is very clean and natural with excellent immediacy and absolutely nothing phony to the sound. I first got to know this duo through 1973's Sonny & Brownie - an audiophile favorite - but I might enjoy this earlier stuff even more.
4 1/2 stars Allmusic: "Straightahead, uncompromising New York-style blues."
