This is a super nice Atlantic original copy in the textured gatefold cover, pressed at Monarch. A lot of people I know with ears I trust have given up on the original pressings for this album in favor of a specific '70s reissue. That's fair, because so many early copies sound rough, gritty and edgy with distortion on the vocals. And that really gets in the way of enjoying one of the key parts of this band's appeal, the lovely vocal harmonies. But there are also very good originals - they are few are far between but this is definitely one of them. I can appreciate what was fixed on the later pressing I mention above but to me it's not a clear cut "one is better" but a give-and-take situation and really a matter of finding the sound that works for you. I played this one and heard just what I want from this album -- it's energetic, dynamic, and just plain BIG sounding, and the guitar solos really come to life. It also plays quietly, which combined with the excellent sound make this in my mind a truly elite - and highly enjoyable - copy of an all-time classic.
5 stars Allmusic: "A rich musical banquet for the most serious and personal listeners"
Vinyl: EX (super clean, light water damage to labels)
Cover: VG+ (very nice, two very tiny holes on back)
Play notes: An unusually strong copy with quiet surfaces -- a real winner!
