This is an original Janus Records promo pressing of a compilation that features material from Donovan's two 1965 releases on Hickory, Catch the Wind and Fairytale. It's tough to find the original albums in nice condition, and the music sounds great here, so it's a great way to get some early material from the folk singer. Many compilations leave much to be desired in terms of sonics, but this one actually sounds quite good. I've heard plenty of comps where everything is brightened up a bit, probably an attempt to disguise the smeary quality you can get when working from something other than the master tapes. But this one sounds natural and relaxed throughout. I don't have great copies of the Hickory albums around to compare, but I've worked with them in the past and I don't remember them being significantly (if at all) better than what's found here.
Cover: VG+ (promo sticker on back, light ringwear, light wear to edges)
Play notes: A great sounding compilation of '65 Donovan that plays quietly
