This is an excellent sounding original Atco pressing of Dr. John's Gumbo. It's one of my favorite albums of his and I think the recording sounds just right for the music. And here's a copy that presents it especially well, with a very solid low end supporting things. The clarity and transparency are excellent and there's a nice smooth quality but not at the cost of detail or texture.
4 1/2 stars Allmusic: "Dr. John's Gumbo bridged the gap between post-hippie rock and early rock & roll, blues, and R&B, offering a selection of classic New Orleans R&B... one of Dr. John's finest albums."
Vinyl: VG+ (a superficial mark that does not affect play, one small pressing defect that makes some minor thumps during Big Chief)
Cover: VG+ (strong)
Play notes: Very good sound, mostly quiet with just a touch of light surface noise
