This is a British DJM Original pressing on the dark red translucent vinyl. The cover has the 12 page lyric booklet bound in and in gorgeous shape. This one plays quieter than most of the early UK copies I find and also sounds quite good. Having played dozens upon dozens of these over the years I can tell you that most copies just don't sound as strong as this one.The sound is super rich, warm, and relaxed, with nothing phony or hyped. The piano and vocals sound especially strong, and that's a huge part of the appeal on an Elton album. It wouldn't be impossible to find another this amazing - maybe you're armed with stacks of clean Brit originals and have hours to devote to cleaning and comparing them? Otherwise, you may just want to short circuit the process and grab a copy that's guaranteed to please.
Allmusic gives the album 5 stars and calls it Elton and Bernie's "most ambitious record to date".
Vinyl: EX (super clean)
Play notes: Incredible sounding copy, light to moderate surface noise at times (almost always the case on these Brit originals)
We prefer to overdeliver and therefore grade conservatively. Our scale runs Near Mint (NM), Excellent (EX), Very Good Plus (VG+), Very Good (VG), Good Plus (G+), Good (G).
