This is a nice 1966 Verve Stereo pressing in the second cover (no Hot Spot ad inside the gatefold). While this may not seem like your typical audiophile affair, there are definitely better and worse sounding pressings and this happens to be a very good one. The sound is big and rich with crazy immediacy. When this thing gets dynamic, it's almost startling -- which is almost certainly the way Zappa wanted it. All four sides play well with no major issues, there is light surface noise behind the music at times but good luck finding an early copy any quieter.
5 stars in Allmusic: "One of the most ambitious debuts in rock history, Freak Out! was a seminal concept album that somehow foreshadowed both art rock and punk at the same time."
Vinyl: VG+ (light wear, nothing that causes real issues)
Cover: VG (ringwear, some wear on edges and corners)
Play notes: A very strong sounding copy that plays well
