This is a wonderful sounding Warner Bros. White Label Promo pressing. The originals (including promos natch) were cut at Artisan and can sound absolutely amazing, and this copy takes this to a very high level. Having played more than these than a rational person should over the years, I've learned a lot about what the various pressings do differently and where to turn for the sound I want. On this album that means clarity to and separation between the vocals above almost all else, because in my mind it's the singing and the harmonies that make this album what it is. I did not do an extensive shootout the time around (my good copies tend to find new homes too fast to allow that) but I can tell you that this is a VERY strong copy. It's rich, warm, full-bodied, and natural, doing a great job with the vocal hallmarks I mentioned above. All of the elements you'd want on a great American Beauty are here. I have a similar WLP that's my personal copy and I'm still tempted to keep this one, but I also love the idea of making someone else a very happy person with this incredible pressing of an all-time classic.
5 stars Allmusic: "It’s easily the masterwork of their studio output, and a strong contender for the best music the band ever made, even including the countless hours of live shows captured on tape in the decades that followed."
Vinyl: VG+ (light wear and superficial marks, plays great; sticker on side two label)
Cover: VG (some wear to corners, edges, spine - still nice)
Play notes: Superb sound, light surface noise in quiet intros but overall a pretty quiet copy for this album
