This is a 1960 Blue Note New York Label Stereo Original pressing with Van Gelder stamps and the "ear" in the dead wax. (For the uninitiated, the "ear" is actually a P representing the Plastylite pressing plant; these pressings are typically highly sought after by Blue Note collectors. Check the zoomed-in pic so you can keep your eyes peeled for it in your own adventures.) I'm a huge fan of the old-school Hammond organ sound and Smith is one of the masters. Here he's joined by a lineup of greats that include Kenny Burrell, Lee Morgan, Art Blakey, Lou Donaldson and more. The sound is quite good and the vinyl plays quietly, with just a bit of light surface noise peeking through in some quieter moments.
4 stars Allmusic: "Smith constantly proves himself the most inventive organist of the bop generation."
Vinyl: VG+ (very clean)
Cover: VG+ (tiny corner bumps but really gorgeous)
Play notes: Tough to find Blue Note "ear" pressings that play this well!
