This is a gorgeous Revelation Records original pressing. I rarely ever see nice copies on the Revelation label; they were a small operation based right here in Los Angeles, so I doubt anyone else is running into a ton of these either. I've grown quite fond of their no-fuss, natural sounding recordings which are nothing fancy but extremely charming. Some tracks here are with a band, others are solo piano. And a few feature a slightly out-of-tune piano, which to me only adds to the charm. This copy sounds quite good and the vinyl plays very quietly. Joe Albany was a great piano player who worked with Mingus, Charlie Parker, and more. His issues with drugs and alcohol probably kept him from wider fame, but you can't argue with his playing. This is a great record for anyone who enjoys thoughtful jazz piano playing.
4 stars Allmusic: "Joe Albany came very close to being one of the lost legends, a pioneering bebop pianist... this is a worthy and historical set."
Cover: VG+ (two light price tag shadows, small "K" written on back, light wear)
Play notes: A really nice sounding record that plays
