This is a stunning domestic Atlantic promo (standard labels) copy of Close To The Edge, an album Allmusic gives a 5 star rating and calls "a flawless masterpiece". I find it pretty hard to disagree, especially after spending a good amount of time with this copy this week. I had quite a few on hand but this one drove things further than the rest -- super dynamic, full of energy, breathtaking transparency, stunning clarity. Listening to the band take on these intricate copies, the thing that came to mind was the precision of this pressing -- it handled every challenge thrown at it by this music where other copies broke up a bit, became a little murky, or otherwise couldn't keep up. This copy has exactly the kind of sound that brings out the best in this music, and I am highly confident that on a good stereo you will hear exactly why I flipped over it. And the vinyl plays really quietly, even handling the quieter passages well.
